Since opening in 2005, Floyds 1921 Restaurant and Catering has become a local’s favorite for lunch, dinner, and catering.

Floyd Olmstead is the culinary magician behind Floyd’s Restaurant and Catering. A Carteret County native, he left the Crystal Coast at a young age to pursue his love of cooking. Over a 22-year career, he apprenticed under Charles Vossburg at the Longboat Key Yacht Club in Florida. He then opened the Brass Parrot in Sarasota before returning to the Crystal Coast where he cooked at the Dunes Club. He then went on to run The Pavilion for 11 years before founding Floyd’s in 2005.

Although Floyd’s restaurant has established a solid reputation for Southern cuisine, Floyd surprises his catering customers with a broad knowledge of all culinary styles, from Asian to Latin to Caribbean. “I love Southern food,” said Floyd. “But I also love to create custom menus based on other cooking styles. If a customer comes in and says, ‘I want a Luau for 150 people’, we can do it–and well!”

Shana Olmstead is the soul of Floyd’s Restaurant and Catering. She is the company’s sales and marketing guru and manages the front end of the house with enthusiasm and joy. She is a Johnson and Wales graduate with 22 years experience in the hospitality business, including a successful career with Wyndham Hotels.

“We’ve become known for our above-and-beyond customer service as well as our food, and that is all we ever dreamed of doing.”

The atmosphere at Floyds is half the dining experience. Housed in one of Morehead City’s finest historic homes, Floyds offers intimate dining for two, seating for larger parties, or private rooms for group dinners or lunches.

You can meet many of Floyds regulars at the bar where you can enjoy a mixed drink, cold beer, or some of the finest wines offered on the Crystal Coast. Or relax on our patio, enjoy a cold beverage, and listen to live music from the area’s top musicians.
